My Martial Arts World
(to be updated as time goes on)

American Chang Moo Kwon: The specific style of martial arts we study and teach at True Martial Arts.  It is an evolution of Chang Moo Kwon integrating elements of Modern Arnis and other styles into it.

Creative Form: A form (see form) created by Black Belt Candidates and above as part of their requirements for the next rank.

Dans: The levels or degrees of Black Belt.

Dojang: The school or place of training.

Form: Also known in other styles as kata or patterns, forms are a set series of movements incorporating various techniques of the style.

Gups: The ranks of the colored belts.

Modern Arnis: A soft style focusing on weapon and open hand techniques created by Grand Master Remy Presas.

Release and Escape: A three step method to get away from a grab.
  1. Release – get out of the grab, usually by moving the arm through the open fingers of the grab.
  2. Yell “No!” – get attention to yourself.  “No!” creates interest where “Help!” may cause avoidance.
  3. Escape – get to a safe person or place.  Not just away, but to a place of safety.

Requirements: Our style is broken into four categories for teaching purposes:

  • Mental Requirements
  • Kicks
  • Form
  • Self Defense.

Tae Kwon Do: A broad term for Korean hard style martial arts.
